Did you watch the Nadal-Ferrer match? I only saw highlights that night - in French, so I didn't understand how great it was until I came across a New York Times yesterday on the train and saw that it was front page and Section A coverage - the greatest match ever, etc.

I remember the famous Borg-McEnroe match back in . . . . the 17th century, or whenever that was.

Weird, los EspaƱoles have now won Euro2008 and Wimbeldon back-to-back. Must be global warming.

Wimbledon! Sorry.

I watched the end of it. It was pretty amazing. I loved how Nadal climbed up to the box to hug his parents and then walked across the roof to see the principes.

I watched parts of the men's final - just enough to be mad at my sleep deprived self for falling asleep in the middle of it!

What I saw live was some of the best tennis ever played. What I saw on replay confirmed my impression of what I saw live.

I'd also add that the women's final was the best match ever between the Williams sisters, who often have a hard time competing against each other. This time they were both sharp, and took turns taking away the other's best weapons.

As someone routinely thumped by my younger brother, I was pulling for Venus. Nice to see age prevail over youth, even if I can never stay close to my younger brother.

Great tennis all around this year. We should be talking about both matches for years to come.

William Rhoden had an article about this in yesterday's NY Times.

Lost beneath the majesty of Nadal’s victory was the significant women’s singles championship on Saturday between Venus and Serena Williams. In a match that allayed concerns that the sisters would never play tough tennis against each other, Venus won her fifth Wimbledon championship. And a sisterly competition became a rivalry.
