Despite the long lines at the turkey leg stands at medieval fairs, their were no turkeys in medieval Europe. Here is a bestiary illumination of a goose.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving, Liam :-)
According to Presenting the Turkey: The Fabulous Story of a Flamboyant and Flavourful Bird (Centro Di 2004), the turkey first came to Europe in 1511, at the request of Fernando el Católico.
Did you guys have a good Thanksgiving?
Yes -- very relaxed at my sisters. I have spent a good part of the weekend grading papers. How was yours?
Very nice. We wound up going to friends of Ted and Pat's. They started the day by offering me a large glass of Johnny Walker Blue. It only got better.
Just too damn warm. 2 inches of snow in Odessa and we were on the outside deck of the ferry with our coats off. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
