my email to my senator

The Judgment of Solomon. English, thirteenth century.

Dear Senator Schumer,

Reading today about Mr. Mukasey's testimony before your committee, I was dismayed to see he shares some of the same misguided ideas about torture and presidential power being above the law that have led to some of the worse excesses of this administration. I am sure Mr. Mukasey is a fine man and I know you have spoken well about him in the past, but I urge you to vote against his confirmation and insist that the president nominate someone who is clear and passionate in his commitment to the balance of constitutional powers and the most basic human rights.

Liam, I'm kind of mixed up. One day the AG nominee is 'everybody's favorite' the next day he's on the hot seat.If waterboaring isn't torture, what is it. I can't even watch TV when they so how it works. Has anyone ever written anything on the US's use of torture from an historical perspective. Even the things they say are not torture---deprivation of sleep, extreme temperature changes, etc.---seem like torture to me. This whole thing makes me sick. Jack

I heard this guy's testimony on the radio this morning, and I nearly dropped my teeth.

"If waterboarding is torture, torture is not constitutional.."

Er, wha...? You've got to be kidding me.

Yet we are told that Mukasey will "sail" through confirmation. When will these Dems ever grow a spine?

Freedom isn't free, you bleeding heart commie liberal. Why don't you just let the terrorists waltz right in through the front door?

Good to see someone taking action.

Unfortunately, he'll probably go through anyway.
